Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Gov to English translation: You can ask the government for information on your competition

What is FOIA: FOIA is a law that states that citizens can ask for copies of government records, and assuming that there isn’t a good reason, that the government has to deliver those records

What you can FOIA: As a rule you can FOIA:
1) Old solicitations
2) Awards to companies

What you can’t FOIA: Typically you can’t get the good stuff, so no:
1) Competitor pricing info
2) Competitor proposals

Time and process: Every agency has a FOIA office and a form to make a FOIA request BUT the FOIA offices are so broken and understaffed that the FOIA system basically doesn’t work any more
