Your elevator pitch is critical

  • You have about 30 seconds:

Get used to saying and writing it:

You will describe your company on every piece of collateral, and every time you introduce yourself, so you need to tell people what you do quickly and in a way that stands out.

If you are struggling to describe yourself consider using this template:

  • [Company name] helps [your customer] with their [the issue you solve]. We [what you do that’s different].  We have helped [Your previous customers] for [metric about your impact].
  • Example: Federal Foundry helps government innovation teams plan, engage, and collaborate with industry. After running a government technology incubator for ten years we understand the small government contractor community and the challenges they face.  We have worked with the Air Force, NSIN, and DARPA on their industry engagement projects and helped them increase them improve their industry engagement

Odds are that your first contract will be as a sub to another small business, so you need to find small businesses you could work with, and start building relationships with them.
