Source Sought

Gov to English translation: A request from the government to know who’s out there

What it is: A source is sought is a request from the government to industry for information on the companies out there who can do the work

Sources sought responses tend to be short and focus on what the company can do, and any socio-economic set-asides they have

Why are you care: Before the government can set a contract aside for small business or a socioeconomic set-aside. They have to be comfortable that there will still be sufficient competition. And a sources sought allows the government to test the waters ahead of a solicitation.
